CR women post back-to-back wins at Shasta tournament

The College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team won back-to-back games for the first time this season at the Shasta tournament on Friday and Saturday.

After dropping their tournament opener to San Mateo on Thursday, the Corsairs defeated Consumnes River 59-53 on Friday and followed that with a 66-42 win over Monterey Peninsula on Saturday.

Kallie Schoenbachler had big games in both wins, as she begins to establish herself more.

The freshman forward from Willamina High School in Oregon scored a team-high 16 points against Comsumnes River and added 11 points against Monterey.

Gracie Betts also had a good game against Comsumnes and finished with 15 points, while Ronee Norwasrd chipped in nine points.

Against Monterey, Rachel Valdez scored a team-best 16 points, while Kendall Stewart finished with 11 points.

The Corsairs, who have now won four of their last six games, improved to 4-6 on the season.

Next up, the CR women will host Napa Valley on Thursday at 3 p.m.
