By Ray Hamill — One of the most dominating teams on the North Coast in recent years capped another outstanding season with a North Coast Section championship this past weekend.
And that earns them our Team of the Week honors, sponsored by College of the Redwoods Athletics.
When it comes to North Coast girls soccer, the Eureka Loggers were unstoppable this season, following a Big 4 championship with a second straight NCS crown.
The Loggers defeated Arcata 1-0 in a hard-fought championship game at Albee Stadium, and this was an easy choice for our team of the week.
Joining the Eureka girls among our honorees this week are an Arcata Tigers duo, who closed out their high school careers with another strong showing this week.
Seniors Keona Gutierrez-DeArmond and Kyra Alway teamed up to place third at the NCS Division-2 girls tennis doubles championships, which were held at McKinleyville and Arcata high schools.
It was the second time Gutierrez-DeArmond has placed near the top in NCS doubles play, having also finished second as a freshman along with former teammate Aimee Renner.
