Former St. Bernard’s Crusader Maddie Costa closed out her junior year in college with some well-deserved recognition.
Costa, a 2019 SB graduate, saw extensive action between the posts this season for the Menlo College women’s soccer team after transferring from Lake Tahoe Community College and she played a big role last week in helping secure a playoff win.
Costa came off the bench and made two big second-half saves as the Oaks secured a 2-1 come-from-behind victory in the quarterfinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.
She was rewarded for her efforts by being named the GSAC Defender of the Week, the second time this season she has received the honor.
The former Crusaders is just the third player in program history to win the award twice in a single season.
Costa was a four-year starter in goal for St. Bernard’s.
The Oaks lost in the tournament semifinals to end their season.
They closed out 8-5-3
Menlo College is an NAIA program.
