A busy fall for the Institute of Combat fighters continued last weekend with two of the gym’s MMA fighters competing at the 559 Fights in Visalia.

Israel Smith improved his record in the cage to 2-1 with a dominating victory, winning on a first-round submission.

His opponent Braxton Stalnacker came in eight pounds overweight, but Smith opted to go ahead with the fight and got the win.

“He was up for the challenge and dominated his opponent,” trainer Cass Bell said.

Smith’s teammate Lypin Lee (155), meanwhile, fought up a weight and lost a split decision, but “fought a great fight,” according to Bell.

More IOC fighters will be in action in Napa this weekend, including Gabriel Smith, who will compete for a flyweight championship.

Gabriel Smith is 3-2 in the cage at 125 pounds.

His teammate Colton Smith also will be in action in a 155-pound showdown, as he returns to the cage for the first time in three years.
