McKinleyville’s Damian Dinan and Fortuna’s Ella Owsley both remained red-hot in H-DNL cross country with comfortable victories in the latest league event hosted by Northeast Prep at the Arcata Community Center on Wednesday.
Dinan, a junior, has won all four league races this fall and posted his second best time of the year this week, finishing the 5K race in 16 minutes, 49.15 seconds.
He paced the field by more than 40 seconds, with Eureka’s Daniel Shaver finishing second in a time of 17:30.10.
Del Norte’s Dylan Rodriguez was third (17:55.53) and the only sophomore in the the top five, followed by McKinleyville’s Jace Thomson (18:07.95) and Eureka’s Ashton Plessinger (18:12.30).
Eureka placed three runners in the top seven and edged Arcata for the team win, scoring 37 points, followed by the Tigers (39), McKinleyville (62) and Fortuna (105).
Reece Thompson (Arcata), Everett Docherty (Eureka), Levi Browne (Arcata), Nathan Whitney (Arcata) and Kai Frimodig (Arcata) placed sixth through 10th.
Owsley, meanwhile, won for the third straight week in the girls race, finishing the 5K in a time of 20:18.35, more than 17 seconds ahead of the field.
The Fortuna senior smashed her previous PR by almost 32 seconds.
Eureka’s Sequoia Ashby 21:12.95) was third, followed by Arcata’s Debi Dorfliger (21:17.44) and Arcata’s Garbrielle Ducate (21:32.57).
Arcata placed four in the top six to comfortably take the team win with 21 points, followed by Eureka in second with 38.
Arcata’s Alauna Thompson, Eureka’s Miriam Mende, Fortuna’s Gabby Crosswhite, Eureka’s Anna Grimmett and Arcata’s Josephine Maguire placed sixth through 10th.
The next league event is scheduled for Wednesday at Arcata.
