With one round remaining in H-DNL girls golf, Sofie Sundberg is well on her way to a second straight individual championship.
The McKinleyville senior shot an 86 at Del Norte on Thursday, placing first for the fifth consecutive week in league play and the second time this season in Crescent City.
Sundberg, who had a season-best 15-stroke win at Baywood Golf & Country Club last week, won by just three strokes this time, as the H-DNL girls collectively had their best round of the fall.
Eight golfers broke 100 for the day, with Arcata’s Sagen Sarchett shooting an 89 for the second best score.
Sarchett remains second in the season standings, 46 strokes behind Sundberg, but the Arcata senior holds a comfortable 13-stroke advantage over Eureka’s Ileah Brannon, who is third.
St. Bernard’s Hannah Finck had the third best round of the day with a 92, followed by Brannon (94) and Arcata’s Madyson Nelson (95).
Arcata’s Iris Coonrod (96), St. Bernard’s Allyson Hagler (97), Eureka’s Mia Lopez (99), Eureka’s Gracie Christian (100) and Del Norte’s Sophia Jagger (102) rounded out the top 10.
Arcata still holds a comfortable lead in the team season standings.
League play closes out at Baywood Golf & Country Club on Monday, when the H-DNL will crown individual and team champions, as well as naming the seven all-league selections.
