By Ray Hamill — Friday night’s game at McKinleyville had it all, including fireworks, a defensive TD, a special teams TD and a huge late defensive stand by the home team.
Not only did the Panthers celebrate Homecoming with a fireworks display at halftime, but their game against the Hoopa Warriors was a very entertaining showdown between two very evenly matched teams.
The game also had some controversy.
As time expired at the end of the second quarter, the Hoopa fans felt they were robbed when Darvin Davis IV was denied a TD on a 53-yard Hail Mary pass from quarterback Lane Campbell.
Davis was ruled down at the two-yard line as time expired and the officials called a pass interference penalty on the Mack defense, which resulted in one more non-timed play back near the original line of scrimmage, and the Warriors were unable to take advantage.
Check out our complete game highlights above, including Davis’ big catch.
We also have the five touchdowns that did count, as the Panthers won 18-14, as well as some big plays on defense, including what turned out to be a game-clinching fourth-down stop by the home team with four minutes remaining.
And for good measure, we also have some of the actual fireworks.
