The Corsairs announced they would be adding the two new teams in June of this year, giving the local community college 15 intercollegiate teams in total, including eight women’s teams and seven men’s.
The two teams follow the recent addition of a women’s tennis program as well as the recent reinstatement of the CR football team, which began competing again this fall for the first time since 2019.
It will be first time the Corsairs have ever competed in women’s wrestling, while the men’s program will be making a welcome return for the first time in more than four decades.
According to CR, the position will remain open until filled, but AD Bob Brown is hoping to start reviewing applicants by Oct. 21 and to begin scheduling interviews within the next month.
The goal is to have a coach hired by December.
The timing will be crucial for the successful candidate to begin the recruiting process and to implement an offseason conditioning course in the spring for current college level students interested in competing in 2023-24.
