The gap at the top of the H-DNL girls golf standings continued to grow at Baywood Golf & Country Club on Monday, as both the individual and team leaders widened their respective leads.
Individually, McKinleyville senior Sofie Sundberg continued to dominate and posted her most impressive win yet, while the Arcata Tigers had five golfers place in the top 10 to take another comfortable team victory.
Sundberg is well on course for a second straight league title and shot an 86 to beat the field by an impressive 15 stokes, which was her largest winning margin of the season.
She has placed first in each of the past four rounds of league play and now leads the season standings by 43 strokes with two rounds of league play remaining.
Arcata’s Sagen Sarchett shot a 101 for the second best round of the day and is second in the overall standings, six strokes better than teammates Avery Meadows and Morgan Ford, who are now tied for third.
Eureka’s Ileah Brannon and Arcata’s Madyson Nelson each had the third best round of the day with identical 104s, with Meadows shooting a 105 for fifth best.
McKinleyville’s Neyr’res Bartoo (106), Arcata’s Iris Coonrod (107), St. Bernard’s Hannah Finck (108), and Eureka’s Gracie Christian and Arcata’s Ford (113) rounding out the top 10.
The Tigers now lead the team standings by a remarkable 220 strokes, with Eureka in second.
The H-DNL plays at Del Norte next, followed by the league-concluding round back at Baywood.
