The Del Norte Warriors celebrated Homecoming with their most impressive win of the season so far as they continued their dominance over the Eureka Loggers.
Playing the first of two matchups against Eureka this season, the home team ran out to a 45-0 victory while holding the Loggers to just 30 yards of total offense all night.
“We played hard and I thought our execution was on point for the most part,” Del Norte head coach Nick White said. “It’s Homecoming, we had a big crowd and I thought the kids played excellent. It was a good night.”
The 2021 Big 4 Offensive MVP ran in for three touchdowns, scoring on runs of six, five and 10 yards and finishing with 119 yards on 18 carries.
“He’s been working hard to get back,” White said of Lofton, who had missed the previous two games. “He gives us a lot of physicality at running back. It’s good to have him back.”
Fellow senior Giancarlo Desolenni was even more impressive and ran for 177 yards on seven carries, including second-half TD runs of 75 and 48 yards.
Quarterback Cooper Maxwell also scored on a late 30-yard TD run, while kicker Daniel Gonzalez remained red hot and nailed all six of his PATs as well as a 30-yard field goal right before halftime.
For the season, Gonzalez has now successfully kicked 35 of 36 PATs.
The Del Norte offense racked up 413 yards of total offense, while the team defense held the visitors to minus-two yards rushing.
The Warriors, who improved to 5-1 on the season, will have back-to-back byes over the next two weekends before opening league play at Eureka.
The Loggers dropped to 3-2.
The Eureka JVs won 8-7, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season.
