McKinleyville junior Damian Dinan continued his blistering start to the new H-DNL cross country season on Wednesday, while Fortuna senior Ella Owsley enjoyed a milestone moment with her first-ever league win.
Dinan won for the second straight week, outpacing the field by more than a minute for his second straight dominating victory.
Dinan finished in a time of 17 minutes, 1 second, followed by Del Norte sophomore Dylan Rodriguez (18:03) and Eureka senior Daniel Shaver (18:08).
The Eureka Loggers had three of the top-six finishers and took the team win with 32 points, followed by Arcata (35), Del Norte (98), Fortuna (106) and Northcoast Prep (110).
McKinleyville’s Jace Thompson also had a good day and placed fourth in a time of 18:35, with Eureka’s Kaelan Doherty fifth in a time of 18:42.
Ashton Plessinger (Eureka), Reece Thompson (Arcata), Nathan Whitney (Arcata), Kai Frimodig (Arcata) and Levi Browne (Arcata) rounded out the top 10.
Owsley, meanwhile, overcame the challenge of Eureka’s Charlotte Leonard to take the win in the girls race and finished in a time of 20:50.
Leonard was just 10 seconds back, followed by teammate and week one winner Sequoia Ashby (21:28) in third.
Arcata’s Ai-Lan McGoldrick (21:35) and Debi Dorfliger (21:59) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Arcata girls showcased their depth with five runners in the top 10 and took the team win with 25 points, followed by Eureka (32).
Gabrielle Ducate (Arcata), Alauna Thompson (Arcata), Lillian Cunningham (Arcata), Miriam Mende (Eureka) and Gabby Crosswhite (Fortuna) rounded out the top 10.
The H-DNL season continues next Wednesday at Fortuna.
