New documentary to highlight Jacks’ rivalry with Chico State

Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics

The rivalry between Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State athletics will be featured in an upcoming documentary that will air on the recently launched NCAA Championships Channel.

Part of a docu-series called The Rivalries, which highlights some of the most intense college sports rivalries, the latest episode will feature the Lumberjacks and Wildcats soccer teams.

It will be filmed on Saturday when the two NorCal universities face off in Chico.

The series is being produced by LG Electronics USA, an official partner of the NCAA.

According to a press release announcing the news …

“Separated by four hours of Northern California wilderness, Chico State’s ‘big state school’ reputation and Cal Poly Humboldt’s underdog status have been at odds for as long as they can remember.

“The rivalry most recently took to the heat once Cal Poly Humboldt alum Kim Sutton, who was instrumental in building the first women’s soccer team there, became the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Chico State.

“This week fans and friends can take to the stadium to cheer on the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks and the Chico State Wildcats as they meet for this season’s most intense games you don’t want to miss.”

Each episode highlights a different sports rivalry as told through interviews, historical moments, and the most recent game footage.

Adding to the local interest in the episode, former Eureka Logger Klayre Barres is a starting defender for the Chico women’s team.
