
Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics – The Lumberjacks men’s soccer team gets the new season under way this week.
By Ray Hamill — The local college sports year officially gets under way this week, with Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods teams in action in soccer and volleyball.
At College of the Redwoods, the volleyball team will travel to Santa Rosa for a pair of games on Friday afternoon, playing the host Bear Cubs and Yuba College, at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
Closer to home, the Cal Poly Humboldt men’s soccer team will kick off its season with a pair of games at College Creek Field.
On Thursday, the Jacks will host Northwest Nazarene at 3 p.m., and on Saturday they will host Holy Names at 11:30 a.m.
The Lumberjacks women’s soccer team will also kick off the 2022 season this week, playing a pair of games on the road.
The Cal Poly women play at Fresno Pacific on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and at Dominican on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Humboldt volleyball team also gets the new season under way this week.
New head coach Angela Spoja will take her players to Silver City, New Mexico, to compete at the Green Chile Classic.
The Humboldt women will play Western New Mexico on Thursday night at 6 p.m. and both Holy Names and Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday morning.
The new Cal Poly Humboldt women’s triathlon team, meanwhile, is gearing up for a first-ever season of competition and will begin the new era at the Best of the West Sprint Triathlon at Sweet Home, Oregon, on Sept. 11.
