By Ray Hamill — Eight H-DNL teams scrimmaged at two different locations on Saturday, as they get set to kick off the new high school football season next week.
Fortuna hosted a six-team scrimmage, with Arcata, Del Norte, Eureka, Ferndale and Hoopa all making the trip, while St. Bernard’s hosted McKinleyville in a two-team scrimmage at Crusader field.
Check out some of the highlights from the scrimmage at Fortuna above, as football officially returned to the North Coast on a beautiful afternoon in Humboldt.
Eight of the nine local varsity teams are scheduled to play on opening weekend, including two all-local matchups here on the North Coast.
The Eureka Loggers will host the Arcata Tigers at Albee Stadium next Friday, while the Hoopa Warriors will travel to Miranda to kick off their campaign against the South Fork Cubs.
Also in action next Friday, the Fortuna Huskies travel to play University and the Ferndale Wildcats play at Fall River.
On the same night the Del Norte Warriors open at home against Kelseyville.
St. Bernard’s kicks off the season next Saturday afternoon, when St. Vincent de Paul travels to Crusader Field.
The McKinleyville Panthers have a bye on opening weekend.
