College of the Redwood Athletics –
College of the Redwoods athletics will host its annual dinner and auction at the school gymnasium on the evening of Aug. 11.
And this year’s event will honor the 2006 Redwoods softball team and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking Title IX.
The 2006 Corsairs became the first CR softball team to make it to the Final 8 State Championships since the merger of small school and large school playoffs.
The dinner and auction will run from 5 to 9 p.m. and all funds raised will go toward CR athletics.
“We are extremely excited for the in-person return of the CR dinner and auction which benefits our intercollegiate athletic programs,” said Director of Athletics Bob Brown.
Interest in CR athletics has been on the rise recently, with the Corsairs pushing for more and more local student-athletes and enjoying plenty of success this past year, with three of the 12 current CR teams winning conference championships in 2021/22.
“Over the years, this event has been a critical revenue boost to the operations of all the athletic teams and has directly benefitted our student-athletes’ academic and athletic experience,” Brown added.
“We are truly grateful for all the continued community support and firmly believe this support has played an integral role in our recent successes, including three Golden Valley Conference championships in women’s cross country, men’s basketball and women’s track and field this year.”
The Corsairs have also recently added two more women’s sports. They fielded a women’s tennis team for the first time this past spring and will compete in women’s wrestling early in 2024.
Football will also return to CR this fall, and men’s wrestling will return for the first time in more than four decades in the fall of next year.
“We look forward to seeing all of you who can attend this event on Aug. 11,” Brown added, “and sincerely thank you again for your continued support!”
Tickets for the dinner and auction are still available at a cost of $85 for an individual or $640 for a table of eight or $750 for a table of 10.
