By Ray Hamill — Humboldt Sports managed to reunite a couple of former teammates while honoring our high school athletes, team and coach of the year this summer.

Jeff Meyer of Mendes Supply Company, one of our awards sponsors, was on hand to present the plaques for Team of the Year and Coach of the Year to St. Bernard’s baseball head coach Matt Tomlin, who happens to be one of his former teammates at St. Bernard’s.

A big thank you to Meyer and our other awards sponsors, Six Rivers Property Management and The Stove Doctors, as well as Sports World in Eureka for helping with the plaques.

Eddie Claros and Cami Cooper Claros of The Stove Doctors were also on hand to award the plaque for Big 5 Boys Athlete of the Year to Arcata’s Carson Tucker at Arcata High last week.

Our other award winners include Hoopa’s Savannah Colegrove, who was named Little 4 Girls Athlete of the Year and St. Bernard’s Nick Dugan, who was honored as our Little 4 Boys Athlete of the Year.

And rounding out our six awards is Eureka’s McKenna Beach, who was named Big 5 Girls Athlete of the Year.
