No. 1 Sooners pull away from Dolcini, Longhorns in WCWS

University of Texas Athletics – Hailey Dolcini

Hailey Dolcini and the Texas Longhorns sufferd their first defeat at the Women’s College World Series on Saturday, falling to No. 1 Oklahoma by a score of 7-2.

The Sooners, who are the defending national champs, scored four runs in the top of the fifth to break open a tight game.

Dolcini took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing six hits and striking out one.

The former Fortuna Husky, who is the first H-DNL player to play in the WCWS, gave up two runs in the top of the first but quickly settled into the game and held a potent Oklahoma offense scoreless for three straight innings.

The Longhorns are 1-1 in the tournament and one of six remaining teams after Northwestern and Oregon State were eliminated on Friday.

The Texas women will play an elimination game against Arizona on Sunday at 4 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on ESPN2.

  1. Ya, Dolcini was not getting good placement off the edges…no worries though, just grind through the opposite side of bracket now for a potential to play Oklahoma again in Final game(s). The relief pitcher got rocked for a 2 run homer 2 pitches in afyer replacing Docini…

…Game announcers said Oklahoma is a superior offense with hitters…
