Less than 24 hours after getting shut out against the Humboldt Crabs, the Humboldt Eagles 19Us responded with a big performance against the Fairfield Expos at the Bear River Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
And once again, it was the Fortuna contingent that led the way.
Former Fortuna Husky Branson Gans dominated on the mound and held the Expos bats to just two hits in a 3-1 win, while striking out 10 and walking just one.
Gans, who plays at Santa Rosa JC, also was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Former Arcata Tiger Mason Nichols also was 2-for-3 and hit the team’s first home run of the summer, while Fortuna’s Daniel Osborne finished 2-for-3 and made a great driving catch in center field to save a run.
Rylan Lommori also had a hit and an RBI to round out a good day for the Fortuna players, who also accounted for all four of the Eagles’ hits in Friday’s loss.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 1-1.
They will host the Expos in a doubleheader on Sunday at the Bear River Sports Complex, with game one set for 10 a.m.
