Double winner Mahle sets new NCS-leading mark in the shot put

Submitted photo – Eureka’s Josh Mahle at Skyline High on Saturday.

Josh Mahle continued to set the pace in the North Coast Section with another big showing this past weekend and two new PRs.

The Eureka Logger senior has the top mark in the boys shot put in the entire section this spring, as well as the fourth best throw in the discus, and he had seasons bests in both events at the 53-team Clash of the Titans meet at Skyline High School on Saturday.

Mahle placed first in the shot put with a throw of 52’00, which topped the previous best NCS mark of 51’3.75 he set at the Prefontaine Rotary Invite in Oregon last month.

He also placed first in the discus with a throw of 154’04, which was not just a PR but also broke the old meet record by an impressive four feet.

The Loggers senior is enjoying an outstanding season and appears to be peaking at an opportune time, with the H-DNL championships scheduled for this weekend in Crescent City.

And Saturday’s performance suggests he will be difficult to stop at the upcoming NCS championships.

  1. The kid used to come all the way from Eureka to my workouts in Fortuna he is an absolute workout monster big athletic fast strong most guys his size aren’t throwing a discuss or the shot that far. I want to say it’s attributed to the workout that he does to make himself explosive enough to throw the shot and the disc. I won’t give that away that’s up to him. Great job logger
