Crusaders continue to roll, top another Big 5 team

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders got the better of another Big 5 team in baseball on Monday, and they have now beaten all four of the local larger school programs they have faced this year.

Just two days after officially clinching the Little 4 championship, the SB boys defeated Fortuna 5-1 in Eureka.

Cayden Lee provided the offensive highlight of the game with a home run, while Drew Vizenor, Aidan Dorsch, Nick Dugan and Braeden Zimmerman each had two hits, including a double by Dorsch.

Vizenor and Zimmerman each scored twice.

Dorsch also got the win on the mound and improved to 5-0. The senior struck out nine batters in six innings, while allowing four hits and one walk and no earned runs.

Dugan pitched one hitless inning in relief and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Tyler Dimmick also had a hit in the win, as the Crusaders improved to 19-3.

Rylan Lommori led the way at the plate for the Huskies (11-8) and finished 2-for-3, while teammates Daniel Osborne, Cole Ayala and Cody Sauers each also had a hit.

Troy Bugbee pitched five innings for the loss, allowing eight hits and striking out four, and “he pitched well,” according to head coach Andy Olsen.

The Crusaders are now 4-1 against Big 5 teams this season, having also defeated McKinleyville, Arcata and Eureka, with their one loss coming against Arcata at the Crusader Classic early in the campaign.

Both teams will now turn their attention back to league play, with the Huskies playing at McKinleyville on Wednesday and the Crusaders hosting South Fork in a doubleheader on Thursday.
