Going out in style, Gorge leads Shasta to extra-innings win at CR

Arcata’s Jaden Gorge closed out his JC career with a big game-winning RBI double in extra innings on Thursday afternoon, as the Shasta Knights swept a two-game series against College of the Redwoods in Eureka.

The Knights, who won their last three games of the season to edge the Corsairs for fourth in the Golden Valley Conference, defeated CR 12-6 on Wednesday and 8-7 in 11 innings on Thursday.

And Gorge, a 2019 Arcata High graduate, played a big role for his team down the stretch, hitting four doubles in his final three games, including three against the Corsairs.

Gorge finished 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run in Thursday’s win, after going 1-for-5 with a double, a walk, three RBIs and three runs on Wednesday.

For the season, Gorge hit .297 with 30 RBIs.

For CR, Taylor Steig also closed out a big season for CR with three hits in Wednesday’s loss, including a home run and two doubles, while Gorge’s former Arcata teammate Mason Nichols was 1-for-4.

Evan Stauch had four hits in Thursday’s loss, including a triple and two doubles, while Jake Agarwal and Max Merian each had three hits, including a home run for Agarwal.

CR closes out the season 5-20 in the Golden Valley Conference and 11-27 overall, while Shasta closes out 8-17 and 13-26.
