Del Norte’s Zach Lor and Evan Drown have been crowned H-DNL doubles champions after a hard-fought victory in the final earlier this week.
Lor and Drown had to battle back from a one-set deficit to defeat the Arcata pairing of Finn Murphy and Aiden Waters in the No. 1 doubles championship match, taking set two on a tiebreaker to remain in the hunt.
The Del Norte duo won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The victory means Lor and Drown will now advance to next month’s North Coast Section doubles championships.
The loss for the Tigers was the only blemish on a thoroughly dominating season for the Arcata boys, who won all six league singles titles and two of the three doubles championships.
At No. 2 doubles, Arcata’s Mathias Severn and Lootah Hall defeated Del Norte’s Phillip Lor and Aron Vue in the decider, while at No. 3, it was the Tigers pairing of Bodhi Jennings and Bruin Nave that got the better of Del Norte’s Eyan Smith and Jin Vue in the championship showdown by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
In addition to Zach Lor and Drown, Arcata’s Nick Bosch will also advance to the NCS postseason.
The H-DNL No. 1 singles champion will compete at the section singles tournament.
The Arcata Tigers, who were undefeated in league matches this year, will compete at the NCS team championships on May 10.
