By Ray Hamill — Four McKinleyville boys set PRs on their way to victory on Saturday, as the host Panthers won both the boys and girls team competitions at the All Comers Meet.
Rocco Previde placed first in the discus with a PR throw of 133’09, while Jace Thompson placed first in the 3200 meters with a PR time of 11 minutes, 13.00 seconds.
Also setting PRs on their way to victory were Dorian Rine in the 300m hurdles (46.04 seconds) and Damian Dinan in the 800m (2:07.47).
Dinan and Rine were both double winners, also taking first in the the 1600m and 110m hurdles, respectively.
Other winners on Saturday included Arcata’s Aidan Shelton in the 100m, McKinleyville’s Jayson Rodriguez in the 200m, and Arcata’s Carson Tucker, who set a PR with a time of 53.96 seconds in the 400m.
McKinleyville’s Derrick Ray took top spot in the shot put, one spot ahead of Previde, while Arcata’s Mason Taylor set a PR in the long jump (19’03.5), as did Eureka’s Elias Ladika in the triple jump (32’07).
The Panthers placed first in six of the girls events on their way to the team win, while St. Bernard’s sophomore Madelyn Shanahan was a three-time winner on the day.
Shanahan placed first in the triple jump, the long jump and the high jump.
McKinleyville junior Alyssa Claros won both the shot put and discus, while Panthers freshman Gabby Watson placed first in both the 100m and 200m, edging senior teammate Cicely Jones in both races.
Arcata’s Ai-Lan McGoldrick won the 400m and the 800m, while McKinleyville’s MaryAnn Som set a PR (6:13.85) on her way to victory in the 1600m.
Arcata’s Aluana Thompson also set a PR on her way to winning the 3200m (12:02.7), while teammate Madison Trieu set a PR (58.37 seconds) on her way to victory in the 300m hurdles.
Other winners included Eureka’s Destiny Barten Jordan in the 100m hurdles and McKinleyville’s Alex Lewis, Watson, Lilli Strube and Corrina Theisfield in the 4x100m relay.
