By Ray Hamill — The midweek rain has forced the postponement of several Big 5 baseball and softball games, with many of them being rescheduled for Friday.
In baseball, Del Norte will host league leaders Eureka on Friday at 4 p.m., with the two schools also playing a doubleheader in Eureka on Saturday.
The Saturday games will be played at the Redwood Fields in Cutten and not at Bomber Field, where the Loggers usually host, because College of the Redwoods is scheduled to play games at the latter.
First pitch on Saturday is set for 2 p.m.
Also in baseball, McKinleyville and Arcata will also renew their rivalry this week, with a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
All three of those games will be played at Mack High.
In softball, the Del Norte girls will travel to play the Eureka Loggers for a doubleheader on Saturday with the league lead on the line.
The Warriors are 4-2 and the Loggers are 2-1.
The games will be played at Washington Elementary School, beginning at 11 a.m.
The two schools were also scheduled to play a single game at Del Norte on Tuesday of this week, but that game got rained out with no make-up date yet set.
McKinleyville and Arcata will also play in softball this week, with a single game at Mack High on Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader at Arcata on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Fortuna has a bye in league play this week in both softball and baseball.
