The St. Bernard’s Crusaders lost 11-7 to Northwest Christian in Arizona on Thursday in a pre-tournament game, as they get set to open the Wolves Classic with two games on Friday.
This weekend’s tournament features teams from all across the country.
Northwest struck early and scored seven runs in the opening two innings, and even though the SB bats answered with four of their own, they were unable to keep pace as the Arizona school scored runs in each of the first six innings.
The Crusaders scored their seven runs on nine hits, including three by Cayden Lee and two each by Carl Nunes and Drew Vizenor, with Nunes hitting a triple.
Aidan Dorsch and Brayden Zimmerman each also had a hit.
Jeran Ford took the loss on the mound, allowing three hits and five walks in two innings and striking out three.
Head coach Matt Tomlin used four pitchers in the loss, while saving aces Nick Dugan and Dorsch for Friday’s games.
Nunes, Seth Brunton and Brody Tomlin each pitched one inning in relief.
The Crusaders, who are now 8-2, will open tournament play on Friday at 9 a.m. against Winslow (11-5), another Arizona school.
