The Fortuna Huskies won a pitchers’ duel in softball on Wednesday, holding on late to edge the Hoopa Warriors 3-2.

Fortuna’s Libby Johnston and Hoopa’s Savannah Colegrove both played well and battled in the pitcher’s circle all afternoon, with each of them throwing a complete game.

Johnston struck out four and Colegrove six.

The Fortuna senior held the Hoopa bats scoreless until the sixth, when the Warriors rallied to score twice and pull within one.

But Johnston was able to dig deep and get out of the inning, leaving the potential tying run at second, and she followed that with a perfect seventh inning to help seal the win.

Hoopa’s Tatianna Colegrove led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-4 with a double, while teammates Jewely Bibancos, Diamond Bibancos, Bethany Masten, Nae-Rew Martin and Hannah McCullough each also had a base hit.

Zoe Dewberry also doubled for Fortuna, with Johnston, Kadence Mace, Kelsi Hall, Catherine Duncan and Faith Helms each also getting a base hit.

Fortuna’s Mariah Smith drove in one of her team’s runs on a sac fly and had a big afternoon defensively, making several big running catches in center field.

The win keeps the Huskies unbeaten on the season and lifts them to 8-0, while the Warriors are now 2-2.
