Redwoods women improve to 3-1 on the tennis courts

The College of the Redwoods women’s tennis team is setting a high standard right out of the gates.

Playing their inaugural season in the sport, the Corsairs improved to 3-1 this week with an impressive 7-2 road victory at Shasta and a forfeit victory over Cosumnes River.

Jasmine Pearson of Del Norte and Emily Laursen of Fortuna combined to win 8-0 in No. 1 doubles at Shasta, while teammate Bel Clark won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Sharon Diaz dropped her No. 1 singles matchup, 6-1, 6-1, while Regina Ricketson fell at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Corsairs also had forfeit wins at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

The Cosumnes River women were forced to postpone a scheduled trip to Eureka on Friday because they do not have enough players.

Next up for CR is a trip to Folsom Lake College on Tuesday.
