Former Arcata and College of the Redwoods standout Thomas Nelson enjoyed a breakout performance for the Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team on Thursday night.
Nelson, who is in first campaign with the Jacks, scored a season-high 11 points in a 66-58 loss at Chico State.
The Wildcats are the No. 13 team in the nation.
Nelson, who has played limited minutes for much of the year, also clocked a season-high 24 minutes off the bench, while shooting 4-for-7 from the field, including nailing three of his four 3-point attempts.
The senior added two rebounds and an assist.
Teammate Jaden Edwards continued to impress with his third consecutive double-double and finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Chico, which held a 13-point lead at halftime, improved to 8-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 12-2 overall, while the Jacks dropped to 4-7 and 10-7.
The Cal Poly men will return home to host Stanislaus State on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
