A big second half against McKinleyville on Monday night lifted Arcata to a 61-53 victory and up to second in the Big 5 standings.
Senior Grace Talty scored a game-high 17 points in the win, as Arcata improved to 2-2 in conference and 10-7 overall.
There was little to separate these two rivals early in the game, and the Panthers led by one at the interval.
But a young Tigers team began to take control in the second half and outscored Mack 15-8 in the third quarter.
Nora Talty also had a good night in the win, scoring 15 points, while teammate Caroline Dieker finished with 11 points and Alia Prentiss 10.
Senior Kathryn Tinney led the way offensively for McKinleyville and finished with 15 points, whole Raina Ausburn and Morgan Stubbs each added nine points and Camryn Pinard had seven.
The two rivals will face off again at McKinkleyville High on Tuesday night.
