GIRLS POWER RANKINGS — Eureka and L4 teams continue to impress

By Ray Hamill — The Little 4 teams feature prominently in this week’s Girls Basketball Power Rankings, with the smaller schools conference holding two of the top three positions.

No. 2 Ferndale is coming off a very impressive win at home to No. 3 St. Bernard’s on Friday night, as the Wildcats took over sole possession of top spot in the conference standings.

And that catapults them up two spots in this week’s rankings.

The Cats will be tested on Tuesday night, when they host No. 1 Eureka in a game that was just added to the schedule this weekend.

The Loggers, meanwhile, are 3-0 in the Big 5 and look like they will be tough to stop in league play and beyond.

Tuesday will also be a good test for them.

The Crusaders drop one spot in this week’s rankings after Friday’s loss, but are still a dangerous team that should compete for both the L4 and Dick Niclai championship.

The St. Bernard’s girls have impressive wins this season over all three of the Big 5 teams immediately below them in this week’s rankings.

The Del Norte girls are banging on the door this week and clearly getting stronger after a nice win over Arcata in Crescent City on Friday.

The race for the second and third Niclai spots in the Big 5 should be a great one.
