Four members of the Humboldt State men’s rugby team have received all-star recognition after big contributions to the team this season.
Isaac Khelo, Logan McDaniel and Dante Cappellano each were selected to play in the National Collegiate Rugby All-Star Shield Challenge in Houston this weekend, with teammate Adrian Magana named as an alternate.
The All-Star Shield Challenge includes the best players from Division I, Division II and Small College rugby teams, with more than 300 players from 100 schools selected based on regional tryouts and coach nominations.
The event will feature eight different regional all-star teams from across the nation and the HSI players are all included on the Pacific Coast Grizzly All-Star team.
“I and the coaching staff are very proud of these players for being selected to compete on the Pacific Coast Grizzly All-Star team,” HSU head coach Greg Pargee said. “Each of these student athletes have put in the hard work on and off the field and deserve the recognition and opportunity. They are very excited to play rugby with and against some of the best athletes in the nation and represent HSU in Houston.”
The All-Star Shield Challenge will take place this Saturday and Sunday at the AVEVA Stadium, which is home to the Houston Sabercats, a Major League Rugby team.
