By Ray Hamill — St. Bernard’s junior Lele Tanuvasa is one of the brightest high school basketball prospects the North Coast has seen in a while and she’s quickly earning the respect of the North Coast sports community.

Tanuvasa, who is also one of the best volleyball players in the area, has been voted the 2021 Humboldt Sports Female Athlete of the Year in a landslide after pulling in 22.7 percent of the more than 2,000 votes cast among the 15 finalists.

Tanuvasa is enjoying another stellar season in basketball this winter and should be a force once again in 2022.

Eureka High’s Bella Vigil, who competed in multiple sports as a Logger and is now playing college basketball at Butte College, finished second in the voting with 12.3 percent of the votes cast.

Another multi-sport standout, Hoopa’s Savannah Colegrove, finished third with 10.8 percent.

Hailey Dolcini and Ashley Quigley rounded out the top five.
