PREP BASKETBALL — Who’s playing where this week

By Ray Hamill — Get ready for another busy week in local prep basketball, with several H-DNL teams playing at various tournaments beginning on Thursday.

Here on the North Coast, the Tigers will host the 53rd Annual Jerry Paul Arcata Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament with four local teams in the bracket.

The action tips off on Thursday afternoon at 4:30, when McKinleyville (1-2) plays Montgomery.

Eureka (1-5) then plays Piner at 6, followed by Arcata (4-0) and Red Bluff at 7:30 and Fortuna (3-1) and Las Lomas at 9.

Three of the Big 5 girls teams — Arcata (3-1), Fortuna (3-3) and McKinleyville (1-2) — will be in action at the Redwood Invitational in Healdsburg, which also tips off on Thursday.

Arcata opens against Ukiah and Fortuna opens against Justin-Siena.

The Mt. Shasta tournament will also feature three local teams, including both St. Bernard’s teams, who are each 3-0 and will both open against Lassen on Thursday afternoon.

The Del Norte girls (3-1) will also compete at the Mt. Shasta tournament and will play Etna at 11:30 a.m.

The Eureka girls (4-2) will continue to test themselves at the Maria Carrillo tournament, which will feature several Division-III teams.

The Loggers open on Thursday night against St. Patrick-St. Vincent.

The South Fork boys (5-1) and the South Fork girls (2-1), meanwhile, will both travel to the Potter Valley tournament, while the Hoopa girls (1-5) and Ferndale boys (2-2) will both play at the Trinity tournament.

Both of those tournaments also tip off on Thursday.

And rounding out a busy weekend for local teams, the Hoopa boys (0-5) will play at the Hayfork tournament.

The Ferndale girls (4-0), who won the Calistoga tournament this past weekend, do not have any scheduled games this week, while the Del Norte boys (2-1) will play non-tournament games against Grants Pass on Tuesday and North Medford on Thursday.
