
College of the Redwoods Athletics – The CR women celebrate Sunday’s win.
The College of the Redwoods women got the new basketball season off to an impressive start over the weekend, winning the championship at the Mission College Tournament on Sunday.
After defeating the tournament hosts by three points on Saturday night, the Corsairs followed that with a dramatic finish against Napa in the decider, with Ashley Quigley scoring the winning basket on a buzzer-beater.
The Corsairs won 56-54 and are now 3-0 on the season.
Quigley was a force all weekend, scoring team-highs in all three games, including 22 points in the championship game.
The former Arcata Tiger, who played a major role in the Corsairs’ conference championship in 2020, scored 70 points over the three games.
Rachel Valdez also had a good weekend in her collegiate debut, scoring double digits in each game, including 11 points against Napa.
The Corsairs also defeated Hartnell 81-32 in the tournament opener on Friday night, before getting the better of Mission College 72-69 on Saturday.

Next up, the Corsairs play at Chabot on Friday night.
The CR women will be on the road for four of the next five weekends and will not play at home until mid December.
