By Ray Hamill — The North Coast Section football playoff brackets have been set, and as expected six local teams have been included, including three who will get to host opening-round games next weekend.
Big 4 champs Del Norte received the No. 2 seed in Division 5 and will open at home to No. 7 Archie Williams on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Also in Division 5, St. Bernard’s received the No. 4 seed and will open at home to No. 5 DeAnza on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The two Big 4 rivals, who were the the two most dominating teams in the H-DNL this fall, have been placed in opposite sides of the draw and could potentially meet in the championship game in three weeks.
San Marin received the No. 1 seed in the bracket, with Encinal No. 3.
Little 4 champs Arcata, meanwhile, received the No. 2 seed in Division 6 and will open at home to No. 7 San Lorenzo at McKinleyville High on Friday night at 7 p.m.
If they win their opener, the Tigers will host a semifinal game the following week.
Salesian is seeded No. 1 in the bracket.
Two more Little 4 teams qualified in Division 7, including Hoopa, which remarkably posted three shutouts in eight days to close out the regular season and move into playoff contention.
The Warriors received the No. 5 seed and will open at No. 4 Clear Lake on Friday night at 7 p.m.
McKinleyville received the No. 7 seed and will open at St. Helena, also on Friday night at 7.
And rounding out this year’s local contingent of playoff teams, South Fork is seeded No. 5 in the eight-person bracket and will open at No. 4 Calistoga on Friday night at 7.
