Charlotte Leonard and Miriam Mende continued their impressive seasons in cross country by leading a strong showing for the Eureka girls at the Trinity Invitational over the weekend.
The Loggers placed first in the team event, giving them some momentum heading into this weekend’s H-DNL championships at the Arcata Marsh.
Leonard placed fifth overall to lead the Eureka girls, finishing in a time of 20 minutes, 27 seconds, which was a season best for the junior who has been among the frontrunners in the H-DNL all season.
Mende, a sophomore, placed sixth in a time of 21:20.
Shasta’s Elizabeth Merrill won a tight race in a time of 19:54, with just 33 seconds separating the top five finishers.
The Eureka frosh/sophomore girls also won their race.
Results for the boys race were not immediately available, but Daniel Shaver continued to impress for Eureka and was the team’s top finisher.
The H-DNL championships will be held Saturday, with the first of four races getting started at 1 p.m.
