NCS soccer seeds set, with all-local matchups scheduled

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Arcata Tigers and Eureka Loggers will meet in the first round of the NCS soccer playoffs.

By Ray Hamill — The NCS soccer playoff brackets were released on Sunday, with 14 H-DNL teams qualifying and at least three all-local showdowns set for this coming week.

In boys action, Arcata is seeded No. 7 in Division I and will host No. 10 Eureka at McKinleyville High on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

As expected, Fortuna received the No. 1 seed in the Division-I bracket and will have an opening round bye before playing either Del Norte or The Bay School next weekend.

The Warriors received the No. 9 seed and will play The Bay School at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Wednesday night.

McKinleyville also is included in the Division-I bracket and the No. 12 Panthers will open at No. 5 St. Helena on Wednesday night.

In D-II boys, South Fork is seeded No. 9 and will open at No. 8 Upper Lake on Wednesday night.

In D-III boys, St. Bernard’s received the No. 7 seed and will host No. 2 Point Arena on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

In girls action, Arcata, Eureka, McKinleyville and Fortuna all are included in the Division-I bracket and all received a first-round bye.

Arcata is seeded No. 1 and will play either St.Helena or Willits in the second round next weekend.

Eureka is seeded No. 3 and will play No. 6 Fortuna next weekend, while McKinleyville is No. 3 and will play No. 5 Credo next weekend.

No sites or times have been set yet for second-round games, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the higher seeds expected to host.

Three other local teams are included in the D-III girls bracket.

St. Bernard’s received the No. 2 seed and will open next weekend against either No. 3 Ferndale or No. 6 Technology, who meet at Ferndale on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.

The South Fork girls are seeded fourth and will open at home to No. 5 Tomales on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
