St. Bernard’s held on for an impressive and hard-fought 14-7 win over Eureka at Albee Stadium on Saturday night, with several players stepping up in the victory.
None more so than junior linebacker Grant Omey, who made what was arguably the play of the weekend late in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.

With four minutes remaining and the Crusaders leading by a touchdown, Eureka receiver Payton Harbin pulled in a reception from quarterback Hans Chalmers, before evading a tackle and breaking free down the sideline.
Harbin, who had a good game, appeared to be headed for the end zone but Omey managed to close a 10-yard gap to make a touchdown-saving tackle at the SB 13-yard line.
The play was good for 72 yards, but the tackle helped secure the victory.
Four plays later, on a fourth-and-two, Omey’s teammate Peyton Smith tackled Chalmers just inches shy of a first down and St. Bernard’s took over on downs and was able to run out the clock.
It was the Crusaders’ second win over their crosstown rivals in three years.
