Makaila Napoleon finished with a double-double for College of the Redwoods volleyball in a four-sets loss to Butte on Friday.

The Corsairs fell 12-25, 25-23, 5-25, 12-25.

Napoleon, a 2019 Eureka High grad who joined the team this past summer, has been a bright spot for the CR women this season, finishing with 11 digs and 10 kills on Friday.

Fortuna’s Kendall Stewart and Del Norte’s Sarah Peters are also enjoying good seasons with the team, settling into a new position.

“Kendall Stewart and Sarah Peters are really growing into their roles as setters,” head coach Petra Lorenzi said. “They are both doing an amazing job for first-time setters at the college level.”

Stewart, who graduated Fortuna High earlier this year, has adapted well to the college game.

“Kendall Stewart is really taking control of the offense and learning how to navigate a collegiate offense,” Lorenzi said.

Another local player, St. Bernard’s Josie Peterson, also had a good game on Friday, finishing with 10 digs and two aces, while Liberty Sateren added 19 digs and Kallie Shoenbachler had two blocks.
