It was a good week on the volleyball courts for the St. Bernard’s girls, who won two more matches to move within a win of securing another Little 4 title.
Straight sets victories over South Fork on Tuesday and Hoopa on Thursday lifted the Crusaders to 6-0 in conference play, with Hoopa (4-2) their closest challengers.
A win at Ferndale on Tuesday will guarantee the SB girls at least a share of the championship.
Maddie Shanahan was instrumental in both wins, finishing with 25 kills and 16 aces over the six sets.
The impressive Kodi Meyer also continued to play a key role for the team, dishing out 43 assists over the two matches, while Marcee Davilla had seven aces against South Fork.
Taylor Cole and Savannah Ray led the way for Hoopa on Thursday, with each of them finishing with five kills, two aces and a block.
Tatianna Ray added four kills.
“We played them super competitive in the first and third set, but just couldn’t finish the way we wanted to,” said Hoopa head coach Amber McCovey-Billings, who described Shanahan as “a great player.”
Rosie Romero, Bethany Masten and Jewely Bibancos each also played well for the Warriors, who play at South Fork on Tuesday.
“All in all, I am always proud of these girls because they never give up and fight till the end,” the coach added.
