Sundberg inches closer to league title; Arcata girls win again

McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg and the Arcata girls team each solidified their lead atop the H-DNL golf standings on Thursday.

Competing at Del Norte, Sundberg shot a round of 95 to pace the field once again, winning for the fifth time in five rounds of league play.

The Mack junior now leads the field by 32 strokes in the season standings and appears to be a lock for the league title with just two rounds of action remaining.

Likewise with the Arcata girls team, which stretched its advantage at the top of the season standings.

The Tigers had three golfers place in the top four and out-distanced second-placed Eureka by 27 strokes.

The Tigers now hold a 60-stroke lead in the team season standings.

Arcata’s Iris Coonrad shot a 107 for the second best individual round of the day, with teammates Avery Meadows and Morgan Ford tying for third with rounds of 108.

Eureka’s Mia Lopez rounded out the top five with a 109, one stroke better than teammate Ileah Brannon in sixth.

Del Norte’s Jo Heuberger had her best round of the season, shooting a 111, followed by Arcata’s Sagen Sarchett (115) and St. Bernard’s Allyson Hagler (116).

The league continues play next week at Eureka.
