The Del Norte Warriors dominated the Huskies in Crescent City on Friday night, running out to a 34-0 win in Big 4 football.

The victory was the team’s fourth straight and lifts the Warriors to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Big 4, leaving them alone atop the standings.

“I thought up front we played really well,” Del Norte head coach Nick White said. “And I thought our game plan worked, obviously. We had a good week of practice and our kids listened and learned what they’re supposed to do.”

Junior quarterback Cooper Maxwell was involved in three of his team’s five touchdowns, including throwing a pair of TD passes to Giancarlo Desolenni, one for 27 yards and one for 14 yards.

Maxwell also scored on an 11-yard run, while RJ Loftin continued his impressive season with a six-yard TD run and Caden Harrison rounded out the scoring with a 32-yard TD run.

The Warriors dominated in all aspects of the game, holding Fortuna to just 15 yards rushing and four yards total offense in the opening half, with senior Sam Schauerman leading the way in the trenches.

“Our O and D lines did an awesome job,” White said. “Those guys really set the tone all game.”

It took the Warriors a little while to get going with a couple of early fumbles, but once they did there was no stopping them.

“After that we played really well defensively and offensively,” the head coach said. “We found a way to move the ball on offense and we did what we do, and defensively our guys played lights out all game.”

The Huskies had a little more success through the air than they did running the ball, with quarterback Coltyn Corning completing 8 of 17 passes for 129 yards.

Rogan Gans pulled in three catches for 42 yards, while Will Stringer had two receptions for 34 yards.

The Del Norte JVs also won their matchup.

Next up, the Warriors travel to play Eureka and the Huskies host St. Bernard’s.
