Busy week of local prep soccer in store

By Ray Hamill — Both the Fortuna boys and Arcata girls will look to solidify their position atop the Big 5 standings in local high school soccer this week, with a full schedule of midweek and weekend games on tap.

On Wednesday evening, the Huskies will host McKinleyville as they look to stretch an eight-year unbeaten run and go to 11-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Big 5.

The Fortuna and Mack girls will also play on Wednesday at Fortuna.

The Arcata girls, meanwhile, are also unbeaten this season, and acre coming off a key 2-0 win over closest challengers Eureka over the weekend.

With that victory, the Tigers improved to 5-0-1 in the Big 5 (7-0-1 overall), and they will try to keep their unbeaten run going at home to Del Norte, also on Wednesday.

The Loggers, who are now 4-1-2 in the Big 5 and 5-1-2 overall, will try to get back to winning ways this week against St. Bernard’s.

The Arcata boys will also host Del Norte in Big 5 action on Wednesday.

The weekend matchups include Arcata at Mack, Fortuna at Eureka, Del Norte at South Fork on Saturday, and St. Bernard’s at Ferndale (girls only) on Friday.
