McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg continued to set the pace in H-DNL girls golf this week, winning for the fourth time in four rounds at Baywood Golf and Country Club on Monday.

The Panthers junior has been unstoppable so far this season, winning every round by a comfortable margin.

On Monday, she shot a 104 to lead the field once again, although she was pushed a little closer than in any previous round, with the Arcata duo of Avery Meadows and Morgan Ford both just four strokes back and tying for second.

“She’s very consistent,” Arcata coach Troy Ghisetti said of the Mack standout, who is an all-year-round golfer. “The good thing about watching her play the past three years is she’s gotten better and better.”

With the win, Sundberg stretched her lead in the season standings to 17 strokes over Eureka’s Ileah Brannon, who has been her closest competitor in three of the opening four rounds.

Brannon placed fourth on Monday, shooting a 110 to lead the Loggers once again.

The Tigers, however, took the team event, with four golfers placing in the top 10.

In addition to Meadows and Ford, Iris Coonrod shot a 117 to place sixth, while teammate Sagen Sarchett was eighth with a 125.

St. Bernard’s Allyson Hagler also had a good day and has shown improvement every week, knocking a stroke or two off her previous best round each time.

Hagler shot a 116 at Baywood, finishing fifth, which was her best placing of the season.

Eureka’s Gracie Christian was seventh (121), while teammate Mia Lopez placed ninth (126), and Del Norte’s Josephine Heuberger rounded out the top 10 with a round of 128.

Meadows (330) is third in the season standings, eight strokes back of Brannon (322), with Ford in fourth (335) and Christian and Hagler now tied for fifth (352).

The Tigers stretched their season lead in the team standings to 30 over Eureka.

Next up, the H-DNL girls travel to play at Del Norte next week, with just three rounds remaining in the regular season.
