The Hoopa Warriors got their first win of the young season on Friday night, sweeping both the JV and varsity matchups against visiting Trinity.
The JVs won 24-14, with the varsity shutting out the visitors 27-0.
Quarterback Lane Campbell continued his impressive start to the season with another big game for the varsity, connecting with Kagan Renteria on a TD pass and running in for another.
Darvin Davis also had a big night on both sides of the ball, running the ball well and making some plays on defense.
Talon Borden and AJ Perez each also ran in for a TD.
“Offense wise, we kicked butt,” said head coach Floyd “Cowboy” Billings, who was missing three starting linemen for last week’s season opener against Fort Bragg, all of whom were back on Friday. “I finally had my bulls on the line and we ran right behind them.”
The head coach also praised the play of his defense, which shut out the visitors.
“Our defense held their own,” he said. “We just have to clean some stuff up. We bended but we didn’t break.”
With the victory, the Warriors improved to 1-1.
