Three of the four H-DNL football teams in action on Friday night won, and all three won big.
Here on the North Coast, the Fortuna Huskies won their homecoming matchup against Kelseyville, 35-14, improving to 3-0 on the new season, while McKinleyville defeated Willits 42-0, posting a second shutout in three games this year.
On the road, meanwhile, Del Norte got its first win of the season, winning 35-13 at West Valley, while the Arcata Tigers lost 57-14 at Sutter to drop to 0-2.
Del Norte took control of the game in the second half, pulling away from West Valley with three long, time-consuming scoring drives.
“It was a good battle in the first half,” Warriors head coach Nick White said. “And we came out in the second half and really established ourselves.”
A relentless Del Norte run game eventually wore down the home team.
Caleb Dodson led the way with 175 yards rushing, while Giancarlo Desolenni added 110 yards rushing and RJ Loftin 50 yards.
All three of them found the end zone, while Giancarlo also had a big impact on defense.
“He was an absolute beast on defense,” White said of the junior linebacker.
Lineman Sam Schauerman also had a big game, as he continues to set the tone in the trenches for the team.
The Warriors, who are now 1-1, will play at Kelseyville next week.
The Del Norte JVs also had a good night on Friday, improving to 3-0 with a 42-0 win.
