On Friday night, the Fortuna Huskies (2-0) will try to make it three straight wins to start the season when they host Kelseyville (0-1) in a homecoming game, with the varsity kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
At McKinleyville, the new-look Panthers (1-1) will try to maintain their early momentum when play their home opener against Willits (0-1).
The Panthers, who carried a 12-game losing streak into the season, won their opener at Yreka two weeks ago, before dropping a close one at Anderson last weekend, and have played far more competitive football than in recent years.
The varsity game is set for 7:30 p.m.
Two other H-DNL teams will be in action on the road under the Friday night lights, with Del Norte (0-1) traveling to play West Valley (0-1) and Arcata (0-1) playing at Gridley (0-1).
Both games are set for 7:30 p.m., with the Del Norte game being broadcast live locally on KPOD 97.9 FM.
Three more local varsity teams will play on Saturday, including a pair of teams that will finally make their season debuts.
First up, at 1 p.m., the Hoopa Warriors (0-0) will play Fort Bragg (0-1) at St. Bernard’s, in a game that was just scheduled earlier this week.
At Ferndale, the Wildcats (0-2) will host Fall River (0-0) in a game that was originally scheduled to take place at McArthur but was switched to Ferndale this week.
And finally on Saturday night, the Eureka Loggers (0-0) will make their season debut after COVID protocols caused problems the past two weeks.
The Loggers will host Ukiah (0-2) at 7:30 p.m., which will be the first game at Albee Stadium in almost two years.
In JV action this weekend, no less than seven local teams are scheduled to play.
On Friday night, McKinleyville, which is off to a 2-0 start, will host Willits; Fortuna (1-0) will host Kelseyville; and Del Norte (1-0) will play at West Valley.
All three of those games are set for 5 p.m.
On Saturday, St. Bernard’s (1-0) will host Hoopa (0-0) at 11 a.m., and Eureka (0-0) will host Ukiah at 5 p.m.
Ferndale (0-0) is also hoping to play Fall River on Saturday in an eight-man JV game before the varsity showdown.
