By Ray Hamill — Six of the nine local high school programs will kick off the new football season this weekend, with two of them playing here on the North Coast.
On Friday night, Fortuna hosts Justin-Siena and Del Norte hosts Enterprise, with the JVs playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 at both locations.
Also in action on Friday night, Hoopa travels to Weed, McKinleyville plays at Yreka and Ferndale plays at Clear Lake.
Rounding out a busy weekend of action for local teams, St. Bernard’s travels to Petaluma on Saturday might to play St. Vincent de Paul.
The other three local programs will all have a bye this weekend.
Eureka was forced to cancel its opener at home to Foothill earlier this week because of COVID protocols.
South Fork also was forced to cancel its opener after Laytonville folded its program, while Arcata has a scheduled bye this week before opening the season at West Park next week.
