Not done yet, Mack 10s respond in style in Sunday’s win

The McKinleyville 10-year-old All-Stars remained in the hunt at their State tournament with a clutch win on Sunday and will play again on Monday night at 7 p.m.

The Mack players opened the NorCal State Tournament with a 10-0 loss on Saturday, but bounced back with an impressive 17-7 victory over Fair Oaks on Sunday.

Everett Gruetzmacher, Blake Carper and Cabella Carper all pitched in the win, with the latter two staying under 20 pitches, which will make them available for Monday night’s game.

Carson Hicks had a huge game at the plate, finishing with four hits, including three doubles, and two RBIs.

The impressive Breydon Brock and Teoh Arredondo each had three hits, with Arredondo also driving in two runs, while Blake Carper was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

Rounding out a big day at the plate for the team, Cabella Carper was 1-for-1 with three walks; Gruetzmacher was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI; Hudson Kapko was 1-for-3 with three RBIs; Mikey Shumard was 1-for-2 with one walk and an RBI; and Jared Brunner 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Mack 12s All-Stars and the Redwood Empire 11s will also be in action on Monday night at their respective tournaments.

The 12s play at 5 p.m. and the 11s at 7 p.m. and both games will be streamed on Facebook.
