ATHLETE AND TEAM OF THE WEEK — Mack All-Stars shine in big week

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Joe Tanno in action for the Mack All-Stars on Wednesday night.

By Ray Hamill — On Wednesday night, McKinleyville’s Joe Tanno turned in a performance he — and most people in attendance — will never forget when he struck out all 18 batters he faced in the district 12-year-old Little League tournament championship game.

It was a spectacular achievement for the young all-star.

And that gets him a well-deserved nod for this week’s Humboldt Sports Athlete of the Week, sponsored by College of the Redwoods Athletics.

But that’s not all for the Mack ace.

In addition to being named our athlete of the week, Tanno and his teammates are also this week’s team of the week after their big showing at the tournament.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Joe Tanno

McKinleyville All-Stars

Few local athletes have ever performed at the level Tanno performed at on Wednesday.

In leading his team to a 6-0 win over Redwood Empire, he not only struck out all 18 batters he faced, but he struck out 10 of them on just three pitches.

Even more remarkable is the fact he did so against the second best team in the area.
